Substance Abuse Counselor
Substance abuse counselors focus on helping people overcome addiction and dependence on drugs and alcohol. Counselors are responsible for developing a specific plan of action for each client based on his or her unique needs and situation. Counselors integrate and consider a variety of socioeconomic factors in the development of individualized treatment plans. Through individual and group therapy sessions, substance abuse counselors assist clients in identifying the root causes of their behavior, coping mechanisms and positive solutions to the challenges they face in their daily lives. Counselors drive the healing process in a positive direction, focusing on skill building, improved decision-making, building a strong support network and formulating the long-term recovery plan after the completion of treatment.
